While VR revolutionizes fields across everyday life — entertainment, medicine, architecture, education and product design — creating VR content remains among its biggest challenges.

Small but mighty: the Jetson TX 2 module.
Small but mighty: the Jetson TX2 module.

At today’s NVIDIA Jetson TX2 launch, in San Francisco, we showed how the platform not only accelerates AI computing, graphics and computer vision, but also powers the workflows used to create VR content.

Artec 3D debuted at the event the first handheld scanner offering real-time 3D capture, fusion, modeling and visualization on its own display or streamed to phones and tablets.

Equipped with a superfast, credit card-sized Jetson TX1, the Artec Leo creates accurate 3D models in real time by fusing color and texture with 3D depth information — scanning 8 million points a second to create 3D models with accuracy of under a tenth of a millimeter.

Using 3D objects scanned by Artec 3D equipment, GTL Studio built a pilot virtual store for MediaMarkt, a German electronics retailer operating in Europe and Asia, enabling customers to explore and purchase products through VR.

“The Artec Leo makes 3D scanning as easy as taking a video,” said Artyom Yukhin, Artec’s president and CEO. “The small yet powerful Jetson TX1 was easy for us to integrate and enable fast creation of photo accurate models to significantly streamline the workflow for CG artists, designers, engineers and others working in VR.”

Powered by the Jetson TX1, Live Planet allows content creators to make stereoscopic VR video of the highest quality, delivered to any headset, from a device the size of a baseball.

Also at the event, Live Planet, Inc., showed how its Live Planet camera allows users to stream VR live from anywhere they have cell service. Powered by the Jetson TX1, Live Planet allows content creators to make stereoscopic VR video of the highest quality, delivered to any headset.

“The Jetson TX1 visual computing platform enables Live Planet users to create stunning immersive stereoscopic views in real time by stitching and encoding 16 camera views to create a full spherical,  stereoscopic experience in 4K at 30 frames per second,” said Halsey Minor, CEO and founder of Live Planet.

The Jetson platform pushes the limits of visual and AI computing, providing developers with supercomputer performance on a module that fits in the palm of your hand. It features the latest technology for deep learning, computer vision, GPU computing and graphics, making it ideal for VR products.
