At the Paris Auto Show – running now through Oct. 19th— dazzling new vehicles featuring our NVIDIA mobile processors are everywhere.
One highlight: Honda became the 19th global automotive brand to feature NVIDIA technology.
Pretty soon, the rest of the world will be stepping into NVIDIA-powered cars, too.
A Tegra for Every Garage
Walk into Hall 3 just off the show’s main promenade and you’ll find our new partner Honda. The automaker is showcasing its 2015 Civic, Civic Tourer and CR-V, the world’s first cars to deploy an Android-based infotainment system on Tegra (check out CNET’s demo video of the system, here).
Nearby, in Hall 4, Audi launched the TT and TTS Roadster, featuring the award-winning Virtual Cockpit powered by two Tegra processors. The Roadster combines the dynamic ride of a sports car with the driving experience of an open-top two-seater. Inside, the all-digital instrument cluster merges computer-generated gauges with Google Earth Satellite imagery. The result: easy access to critical information, right in your line of sight.
Audi also revealed updated A6 models with the introduction of the 2.0 TDI Ultra. Ultra indicates the most efficient of engine choices available. The theme for the A6 line is high performance, high technology and high efficiency. It’s a perfect fit for Tegra.
You can also see new vehicles from Volkswagen, SEAT, and Skoda featuring Tegra-powered infotainment systems. All use the modular infotainment platform, or MIB, first introduced by Audi.
Instead of using the MMI controller as found in an Audi, these systems feature a touch screen interface with graphics and features specific to the brand. They also use a proximity sensor, so when your hand approaches the screen, features such as the radio station choices appear so they’re easy to find. When you’re done, they disappear so the screen doesn’t become a distraction.
Lap of Luxury
If looking for luxurious places where you’ll find an NVIDIA processor, one answer would likely be the new Bentley Mulsanne Speed. This sporting sedan produces 530 horsepower and 811 lb.-ft. of torque. Incredible numbers for any type of car, let alone a 4-door luxury sedan.
Over in Hall 5 is the BMW Group. Starting with MINI, they continue to expand their lineup, with the addition of a Hardtop 5-door. This stylish small car features the newest MINI Connect system, powered by NVIDIA. The distinctive circular center stack features a high-resolution display for navigation and media selection. It even has an interactive user manual.
Across the aisle, BMW hosted the world premiere of the 2-Series Cabriolet and updated X6. Now, all BMWs, from the i3 and i8 to the new X6 and 7-Series are sporting the newest BMW Connect system, powered by NVIDIA.
Moving to the bespoke side of things, Rolls-Royce introduced the Metropolitan Collection Phantom. Only 20 of these will be built – each crafted with the utmost attention to detail, such as a picnic table in the second row of seats, made with 500 individual pieces of wood. And all the Rolls-Royce models rely on NVIDIA to deliver an elegant infotainment experience.
